Well, earlier today I went to see the new comic book movie "Watchmen", directed by Zack Snyder the same guy who directed "300" and the "Dawn of the Dead" remake.
Well being that this is based on one of the greatest graphic novels ever made it natural for many fans to get all excited and really those who haven't read the book may not get the whole idea.
Fans of the graphic novel should enjoy this movie. Personally I haven't read the book yet but I knew the whole idea of the book and what it was supposed to be, and going into this movie I was actually expecting to get toally lost and not understand what was happening, but no. I actually got what was going on. I can't really explain exactly what it was all about without giving anything away, but to those who haven't read the book or don't know the actual purpose of the book, may just see it as about superheroes trying to save the world but believe me when I say it is way more than just a simple stoyline like that, as some people may put it out to be, which just pisses me off.
The actors and actresses all did a great job, and the man who played Richard Nixon for the most part gave a very believable performance and half the time I forgot that he wasn't really Richard Nixon. Now just to say this, my two favourite characters of the movie would have to be Dr. Manhattan and Rorchach. Rorchach was badass, and Dr. Manhattan was the only one that actually had super powers, so how could you not like that. My only problem with him was that half the time he was walking around naked, and I kept saying "put some fucking pants on man!", but hey, I'm sure the ladies will love it, eh.
The action sequences were some of the best that i have seen in a long time, and unlike in a lot of films now a-days, they were not filmed in extreme clse up, like the action sequences in "Quantum of solcae" or "Batman begins. Not to mention they were very well choreographed, so yeah, the action sequences were great.
The cinemaphotography was great as well, almost all the shots I can think of were epic in some way. The scene where Night owl enters is house with the shot of his figure entering through the door, the shot of Dr. Manhattan on mars, I could go on and on, but I won't. So yeah it's pretty well filmed as many people may see.
Oh yeah and some people are complaining about the length. Honestly, it was a bit long but if they cut out any more of the footage, it would have just confused more people and it would have made the film worse, which was clearly what the director was trying to avoid.
So really all I can say was this movie was weird but in a good way.
****/*****
A sequel, not in a million years. There was only one graphic novel and it should just stay that way. In all seriousness, there is nothing to do. It would suck 3 dicks all at once.
Go see it. It's pretty good, but familiarise yourself with the graphic novel, otherwise you won't get the whole point.
